Dance students impressed the crowd with a range of dazzling performances
Hundreds of students from 35 primary and secondary Catholic schools from across the Diocese showcased their creative talents in a series of music, dance and strings performances throughout June, culminating in the ‘Best Of’ performance on 23 June.
The showcase events demonstrated the high calibre of choral, music and dance work from Catholic schools, under the Parramatta Diocese’s creative and performing arts initiative, CAPTIVATE.
The program provides learning and performance experiences for students, as well as builds expertise and a sense of community across the system. CAPTIVATE is very popular with five new schools joining the program since last year.

Our STEM Enrichment groups have been busy working on the physics applied to creating a rollercoaster. Our senior group got theirs going first and have been mentoring our junior groups. What a great way for them to build their communication skills in preparation for STEM MAD in Adelaide? What's the science? Creating a rollercoaster model involves applying fundamental physics concepts, primarily the law of conservation of energy and the interconversion of gravitational potential energy (at height) and kinetic energy (due to speed). Our debating team recently took on St Angela’s Castle Hill with the topic “AI hinders learning in the classroom.” This contemporary topic sparked an engaging debate, with both sides presenting strong arguments for and against the use of AI in education. Although we didn’t come away with the win today, our team should feel very proud of their efforts. They showed impressive skills in presenting their points and confidently refuting opposing arguments. This was the final round of the Hills Cluster Debating Competition—congratulations to all students who participated across the rounds this year!

3G and 3W experienced their first taste of the Prime Minister's Spelling Bee which they thoroughly enjoyed. They were tasked with spelling a range of tricky words such as hedge, coax, yoke, plaid, vigil and attest! Year 3 look forward to participating again next year!
