A St Bernadette's education allows students to discover their own talents and provides opportunities to fully explore these.
Key to our commitment to delivering a balanced education and allowing our students to grow in all aspects of their lives, we teach more than just the basics. In addition to the quality learning that takes place every day in a formal setting, our students are given many opportunities to participate in co-curricular activities that help them develop a wide range of skills, abilities and knowledge.
These activities include, but are not limited to:
- Voice of Youth - a Year 6 public speaking competition
- School Choir - Years 3-6
- Band Tuition - Years 3-6 (costs involved)
- Dance Club (costs involved)
- Diocesan Creative Arts Festival
- Dance Fever competition
- Hills Interschool Debating Competition - Year 6
- University of New South Wales competitions
- Chess club
- Gardening Group
- Coding and Robotics
We recognise the importance of preparing students to be leaders in the future and our Year 6 Leadership involves an extensive program of leadership skills and qualities development. It may include interaction with leaders from other local Catholic schools, as well as a program of planned activities and events, including organising assemblies, to help the student leaders refine their leadership skills and build teamwork. In addition senior students act as mentors for younger students with our Buddy Program.
Sport at our school is about participation, teamwork, healthy lifestyle choices, skill development and, above all, fun. All students are encouraged to become involved at a level with which they feel comfortable, and to extend this involvement to realise the potential harboured within each individual. Those children who exhibit particular talents in sport have access to representative sports at a number of levels, from school through to national.
Our students compete in:
- cross country
- touch football
We hold three major school sports carnivals each year - Cross Country (Term 1), Athletics (Term 2) and Swimming (Term 4). At each of these there is the opportunity for those students who excel to represent the school at the Zone level. Children in Years 3-6 are given opportunities to participate in invitational carnivals, knock-outs and Gala days. These sports vary from year to year.
Motiv8 Sports is also offered each term for all students for one afternoon a week for an additional cost. This program is run by external professional coaches and provides a range of fun, educational activities that help build teamwork and physical skills and promote good sportsmanship.
The Parramatta Diocese Catholic Primary School Sports Council (PDCPSSC) is responsible for the provision of opportunities for primary students from eight years of age in the current year to participate in representative teams in a range of sports.
