After much anticipation our Design-A-Thon Day has arrived at St Bernadette's!
The Design-A-Thon provides students with the opportunity to utilise their creative and innovative skills, designing various sculptures, artworks and products.
The students involved had a blast and we're all looking forward to our next Design-A-Thon in 2018!

A huge congratulations to both our Affirmative and Negative debating teams for their wins today! 🎉 The topic was “Petrol cars should be replaced by electric cars”. It was a tough one, with both sides delivering strong, well-researched arguments. Well done to all our students and to Christ the King for such engaging and high-quality debate. It was great to see respectful, passionate discussions on such an important topic! 🚗⚡

Students on Tuesday the 12th of August attended The STEM MAD (Making A Difference) competition. It invited students to use their STEM skills to create innovative solutions to real-world problems. Whether it was sustainability, health, technology, or community impact, students put their ideas into action. Our Kindy /1 team — Jack, James and Sienna — with their design " Motion Sensor" won the Highly Commended – Innovation Award. A special congratulations to our Year 4 & Year 5 team, “RJDL The Suck and Sorter” — David, Jacob, Rebecca and Lucas — who were announced "Overall Winners" and have been selected for Nationals. The Year 4 and Year 5 team are off to Adelaide in November to represent St Bernadette's at the STEM MAD Nationals. 👏👏👏 Students did a great job representing St Bernadette's. A group of our Year 6 students, together with Gilroy College, spent the morning at BUPA Dural filming this year’s BUPA’s Got Talent. A handful of Year 5 ambassadors visited Alphabet Cottage today, an opportunity to develop intergenerational relationships. Our Cottage friends got to meet some 'big school' kids and our students enjoyed some play and an opportunity to show care, compassion and leadership.

On Tuesday, Year 2 spent the day exploring the amazing animals and their habitats and they weren’t "lion" when they said it was the best day ever! 🦁 They also learned fascinating facts about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, including how they lived and the clever tools they used to thrive on the land. 🌿 What a "roarsome" day of learning and adventure!

Final results for our DIVING QUEEN: Tuesday 29th July -Emily won 2nd in 10yo Girls Knockout Event. Wednesday 30th July -Emily came 4th in 10yo Girls Springboard. Congratulations Emily in Year 5 currently competing for NSW at the School Sports Australia Championships in Diving. The competitions are currently being held in Brisbane. She has placed 2nd in the 10yr Girls Knockout event. She still has 2 more events to compete in. What a champion! St Bernadette's is so proud of you Emily!

On Wednesday, 30 July, Stage 3 students will take part in our annual Vinnies School Sleepout, held at school after hours under the supervision of school staff. Did you know: More than 17,600 Australian children under the age of 12 have no permanent home. 58% of the homeless population is under the age of 35 and in the prime of their life The rate of poverty among children nationally is higher than average at nearly 17% compared with the overall average rate of 13%. Children face an 18% higher risk of poverty compared to other age groups Help Stage 3 fight homelessness by donating at: https://my.fundraise.vinniesnsw.org.au/vinnies-school-sleepouts/st-bernadette-s-primary-school-sleepout Your donation can help in the following ways: $15 pays for a day’s meals for a family struggling to put food on the table $30 provides someone a bed for the night $50 provides school supplies and excursion fees for a child experiencing disadvantage $80 pays for a course in life skills such as cooking, preparing for job interviews or basic computer skills at TAFE.

Thank you to all Grandparents who joined us for our celebration of Grandparent's Day. We started our day off with a beautiful Liturgy followed by open classrooms. Our visitors then had the opportunity to share a morning tea with each other. Thank you for the P&F for organising this.

Students in Kindergarten had their first excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm. Students milked cows, went on tractor rides, whip cracking show and many more enjoyable activities. Students had a great time.
